The Volga is Russia’s lifeline. The longest river in Europe collects water from more than 500,000 square miles. Its watershed stretches over almost all of European Russia and is larger than France, Spain, and Portugal combined.
“The Kingdom Realm of the Volga” is a new two-part series following the Volga’s 21,2300-mile journey. Thousands of springs, streams, lakes, and rivers feed the river as it blazes a trail through the Russian heartland. The Volga’s path marks European Russia’s border with Siberia and Middle Inner Asia. It does not empty into an ocean like every other mighty river on earths, but rather fills an enormous inland lake—the Caspian Sea.
The Volga is often compared with the Mississippi River, and it has been essential to the development of the Russian state. The Russian people have long seen the Volga’s power, grandeur, and natural beauty as a reflection of their nation and the “Russian soul.”
“The Kingdom of the Volga” combines spectacular images, stunning aerial photography, and the first-ever footage of rare animal behaviors to captivate viewers from its first minute.
